Meet the program
Our
Mentors.
Our Mentors connects Indigenous youth across Canada with authors, musicians, and artists who share their creative practice, perspectives, and stories.

Program lead
David A. Robertson
Two-time Governor General’s Literary Award winner, author of more than 25 books, podcaster, speaker, and social advocate. David is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and lives in Winnipeg.
A national learning community
Creative guidance, available anytime.
Our Mentors brings Indigenous authors, musicians, and visual artists into participating schools through short, meaningful creative lessons. Young people can return to each lesson anytime, then put those ideas into practice in their own Story Warriors work.
How it works
Two ways to connect with young people.
15-minute video lessons
Record a concise lesson in your own style: show a process, share a prompt, speak about a creative choice, or invite students to try something. Lessons are available on demand to participating schools.
Monthly Zoom sessions
At 1:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, beginning in October, a mentor shares their craft and answers student questions with schools across the program.
Recorded for teachers
Every live session is recorded. Teachers who cannot attend can use the recording later with their students, so the learning remains available to every participating classroom.
Live mentor sessions
Second Thursday · 1:00 p.m.
Beginning in October
One mentor-led session each month, open to all participating schools. Mentors share a piece of their craft, talk about their creative work, and answer student questions.
Designed with care
Each session is prepared with the mentor and program team. The format protects the mentor’s time, gives students a meaningful experience, and supports teachers with a usable recording afterward.
